Land Acknowledgement
We respectfully acknowledge that our offices in Barrie and Orillia are located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg peoples, including the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, a member of the Chippewa Tri-Council and Three Fires Confederacy, as well as the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Pottawatomi Nations. We also recognize the Wendat Nation (Huron), who inhabited these lands prior to the middle of the 17th century.
These lands are covered by the Williams Treaties and Upper Canada Treaties, signed on behalf of the Anishinaabe and Canadian peoples, and include areas once part of the Coldwater-Narrows Reserve. This region is also home to the Mnjikaning Fish Weirs, one of North America’s oldest human developments.
We honour the enduring presence, histories, and cultures of Indigenous Peoples and recognize their significant past and contemporary contributions to these lands. As an organization, we are committed to fostering understanding, inclusion, and action toward Truth and Reconciliation. We strive to move forward in the spirit of respect, harmony, and dignity, working together to create a welcoming and supportive community for all.
