Plant a Garden of Hope (Pinwheel Kits)

   How it works
      • Purchase Blue Pinwheels: Order pinwheels directly from Amazon.ca (bulk packs available).
      • Pick Up a Lawn Sign: We’ve created “Go Blue Simcoe Muskoka: United Against Child Abuse” lawn signs. You can pick up a sign from our Barrie or Orillia centre. Please contact us to reserve—supplies are limited.
      • Create Your Garden: Plant your pinwheels and display your sign at home, school, work, or your business.
      • Share & Tag: Post a photo with #GoBlueSimcoeMuskoka to inspire others.

Why it matters
Each Garden of Hope is a powerful, positive symbol that our community stands with children, youth, and families impacted by abuse – raising visibility for prevention and supports.

Recognize the Signs of Abuse

Child abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, or neglect. Sometimes the signs are obvious; often they are subtle and appear over time. Trust your instincts—if something feels off, seek help.

Possible signs to watch for (one or more may be present; context matters):
Physical

Unexplained injuries, frequent bruises, burns, fear of going home or changing for gym.

Behavioural/Emotional

Sudden mood or behaviour changes, withdrawal, anxiety, depression, aggression, nightmares, regression, self-harm talk or actions.

Sexualized Indicators

Sexual knowledge or behaviour not typical for age, STIs, pregnancy, distress about certain people or places.

Neglect

Poor hygiene, persistent hunger, untreated medical needs, chronic lateness/absences, inadequate clothing.

Digital Red Flags

Secretive device use, new older “friends,” unexplained gifts/money, coercion to send images, threats.

How to Respond

Listen & Believe

Stay calm, thank the child/youth, avoid pressing for details.

Ensure Safety

 If immediate danger, call 911.

Report Concerns

In Ontario, everyone has a duty to report suspected abuse to Family Connexions (CAS).
